Rock Date Diary: Bob hosts the extraordinary “Sound & Vision” fundraiser for Cancer Research UK

On this day in 2010 Bob introduced an amazing array of music stars to the stage at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in North London to raise funds for CRUK.

As co-Patron of the “Sound & Vision” events, alongside Beatles producer George Martin, Bob helped raise over £250,000 of the four day event.

The show featured music from David Gray, Newton Faulkner, Beth Nielsen Chapman, and Robert Plant.

Bob’s perspective:

Today’s #BobsRockdateDiary page goes back to this week in 2010 and a very special moment at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London where I hosted a fundraising event entitled Sound & Vision to benefit Cancer Research UK.

The evening comprised a combination of an auction of beautiful art, photography and memorabilia with an inspiring intimate concert The team at Cancer Research UK had invited me to become co-Patron of the event with Sir George Martin and I was so proud to share the stage with him to introduce Newton Faulkner, David Gray Beth Nielsen Chapman and the great Robert Plant who created a unique set of Scott Walker songs, performed with Beth and the London Oriana Choir.

Cynthia Lennon and Mike McCartney conducted the audience in a stirring version of ‘Yellow Submarine’ (Lennon and McCartney!) and in total we raised more than £260,000.

The previous year Paul Weller and Kelly Jones played, the following year it was Tom Jones and in total we raised more than £750,000.

I am so grateful to Bill Cannon, one of the main sponsors of the events for sending me this long lost film. The work of Cancer Research UK is more important now than ever.
